1746-47... Rev. Michael Schlatter arrives from St. Gall, Switzerland, commissioned by the Reformed Church of the Netherlands to organize Germans in this area.    Arrived here to a log church knowns as "Fox HIll Church" from Philadelphia on Nov. 18th.  He administered the Lord's Supper to about forty German immigrants who had arrived in search of greater religious freedoms.

1760 ... a large NJ land owner, James Parker, gives the Fox Hill congregation the property on the corner of Beacon LIght and Rt. 517 where FPC now stands.     A shingle church is built in the NW corner of our historic cemetary.

1782-1809 ... the first native-born American to enter the ministry of the German Reformed Church in America, Rev. Casper Wack, serves as pastor of four aread churches ... Fox Hill (Fairmount), German Valley (Long Valley), Rockaway (Lebanon) and Alexandria.   

1813 ... this congregation is admitted to the Presbytery of New Brunswick and named the Presbyterian Church in Parker's Village in Fox Hill (PCPVFH?!  We rather like FPC .. :-)

1816 ... the shingle church is torn down and replaced by a stone church, allowing for the congregation's first Sunday School.

1817 ... we become incorporated on February 5th and given the corporate name "The President and Trustees of the First Presbyterian Church in Parker's Village on Fox HIll."  Again, FPC is much easier to remember!

1841 ... congregation unites with the Newton Presbytery (www.newtonpresbytery.org)

1847 ... a church manse is built to house Rev. Isaac Davison.   It has continued to be the home of the pastor and family right up through today. 

1851-1855 ... the dilapidated condition of the s1816 stone church is determined beyond repair.   A fourth sanctuary, our present house of worship, is dedicated on July 25, 1852.

1869 ... the congregation changes it's name to "The First Presbyterian Church of Fairmount."   We "do business as" Fairmount Presbyterian Church, but this remains our incorporated name.

1902 ... the sanctuary is closed for remodeling in July and August of this year.  A portico, bell tower, new gallery, and memorial windows are added.   The present pews were added in 1909.

1924-1959... following the Great Depression, FPC becomes "yoked" with the Lower Valley Presbyterian Church in Calfion.  This ended by Session vote on January 19, 1959.

Easter Morning, March 24, 1940 ... the original Community House is destroyed by fire.   The current building is erected a short time later, with a new educational wing added on September 25, 1966.

1959-1966 ... Rev. John Mason Cooney serves as pastor.   During this time the Fairmount Cemetary (across the street from our Community House) becomes a separate corporation from FPC,. and a poplular . prominant series of forums takes place called "Religion and Public Affairs."

1966- 1971 ... the pastorate of Rev. Frank Poole. 

1972-1973 ... the pastorate of Rev. Roger Verse is brief, but celebrates our 225th Anniversary.

1974 - 2002... Rev. Bill Davis is installed on October 13th   During his long tenure, with wife Doris Davis, FPC celebrates it's 250th Anniversary.

2004 ... Rev. Rich Gelson begins his tenure on August 1st.    Rev. Bill Davis is named Pastor Emeritus.
